Kong: Skull Island is an American monster film directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts.

The film is recorded as another version of King Kong franchise in the Godzilla-Kong film series.

Kong: Skull Island has beautifully filmed in mid-northern portion of Vietnam with 3 main locations including Ninh Binh, Quang Binh and Quang Ninh (Ha Long Bay & Cat Ba Island).

On the 15th of March, 2016 Titan was scheduled to leave Ninh Binh for Halong Bay, the Natural World Heritage in Quang Ninh province, to prepare for other shots. The cast and crew of Hollywood movie Kong: Skull Island came to Tuan Chau Island in the northern province of Quang Ninh to start filming at Ha Long Bay on the largest motion picture ever to be filmed in the country. The filming process is scheduled to complete on March 18.

The Quang Ninh’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has supported Titan in the best conditions with a warmly welcome.

Filming set & locations

Quang Ninh is a phenomenal attraction of Vietnam with world-class landscapes granted as the World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This is an absolute must of traveling in Viet Nam and attracts millions of visitors a year. There are two main filming locations that Kong production team chose to film: Ha Long Bay and Cat Ba Island.

Ha Long Bay, located in the Gulf of Tonkin, within Quang Ninh Province is an area of more than 1600 islands and islets with the natural formation of seascape of limestone pillars. Ha Long Bay owns outstanding scenery of variety of drowned limestone karst landforms includes arches and caves. Ha Long Bay is the background of the scene that helicopters hovers above the air carrying troops to explore the hidden island of Kong.

Another captivating filming location of Quang Ninh is Cong La Area situated about 30 km from Tuan Chau Island and borders Cat Ba Island of Hai Phong. Cong La also has a spectacularly pristine beauty of nature of untouched islands and hidden lakes that could only be approach at low tide.

The filming period is perfect with Quang Ninh’s best weather in the year. During March, the sky is crystal clear, matched the pure blue water together create a scene that could be suitable with any of movies’ scenes from romantic to adventurous.


Kong’s production team is a professional combination of many departments in assistance to the filming progress in different destinations.

The production team consists of about 220 film not only Hollywood team members of filming department, actors, food & catering, destination consultants but also Vietnamese assistance team for local support.

Local society supports & connection

Besides filming, Titan also has specific supports & connections with the local society such as using local employees during filming progress & promoting Quang Ninh Tourism to the world when the film is released in 2017.

Local human resources are one of the supports that Titan draw while filming in Quang Ninh. There are some local guides and assistants have been recruited for Titan for scene supports during filming process.

Kong: Skull Island is expected to be a Hollywood blockbuster film and promote Vietnam Tourism as well as Quang Ninh as a spectacular destination for world-wide travellers.

On the other hand, Quang Ninh province has also prepared the best conditions for the filming includes discussions with Titan’s representative the detailed plan of working agenda with a warm reception as well as rescue operations, health and other services to strictly follow the schedule.


Kong’s production team has faced difficulties during filming progress in Quang Ninh in local qualified employees during filming. Titan has to bring their majority assistant team from Ha Noi & Ho Chi Minh City due to the lack of qualified local employees in Quang Ninh.
